I’m not too proud to admit that sometimes the thought of reciting affirmations and “only thinking positive thoughts” makes me want to SCREAM. See, for a long time, this is what I thought constituted “mindset work,” and I was NOT here for it.
But I wanted to heal my Lyme.
Very soon into an intensive Lyme healing journey, I realized that my running from mindset work just WASN’T working.
I quickly learned that toxic positivity was going to be just as detrimental to my healing as negative and limiting beliefs, so what was I supposed to do or how was I supposed to THINK then?
My background in neuroscience nursing makes the neurological science behind thought processes and healing VERY interesting to me. You may not geek out about it as I do, but just know that there is evolving science and research in the world of mindset work for healing on ALL levels and it’s both fascinating and humbling. Mindset is about thinking beyond current reality, NOT denying negative experiences or forcing ourselves to keep pushing when we may need to pivot or ask for help or a break.
Mindset work is about being HEALTHY in both how we frame thoughts about our reality and in how we embrace the hard parts of our healing. It’s one tool we can use to move more astutely through ups and downs that come with healing, instead of being completely thrown about or derailed along the way.
It’s about choosing and speaking LIFE over ourselves and our situations, knowing that with thoughts of higher, healing frequencies such as these, DOES come higher levels of healing and health overall - on a cellular level even, and down to our DNA. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29616846/)
Now I clearly see how affirmations, grounding truths, prayer & meditation, personal development resources, courageous choices, & more can be so very very healing in the immediate AND the long run.
