If you've spent any time in the chronic illness world, you've probably heard promises of perfect health.
"Find the root cause."
"Fix the gut."
"Balance the hormones."
"Kill the infection."
"Detox the toxins."
And while all of those things may have value, there's one problem: life doesn't stop being life once we find the "right" protocol.
Stress happens.
Viruses happen.
Poor sleep happens.
Loss happens.
Travel happens.
Life is unpredictable.
As a nurse, holistic health practitioner, and someone who has personally navigated Lyme disease and chronic illness for years, I've come to believe that the goal isn't perfect health. I can even say now in my journey the goal isn't (nor should it have necessarily ever been) remission.
The goal is health resiliency.
So what Is Health Resiliency?
Health resiliency is your body's ability to adapt, recover, and function despite challenges or stressors. It's what your body WANTS to do, and is created to achieve!
Think of it like a tree. A rigid tree may look strong on a calm day, but during a storm, it snaps. A resilient tree bends with the wind and survives. The same principle applies to our health. A resilient body can handle occasional stress, recover from setbacks, and continue moving forward without completely falling apart. That doesn't mean symptoms never happen. It means symptoms no longer control your life.
Many people unknowingly spend years chasing an impossible standard.
They wait to live until their labs are perfect.
They wait to travel until they're symptom-free.
They wait to enjoy life until they're completely healed.
I understand that mindset because I've lived it. But eventually I realized something important:
The healthiest people aren't necessarily those with the most perfect labs or complete lack of symptoms. They're often the people whose bodies can adapt and recover efficiently when challenges arise.
Resiliency isn't a supplement. It's not a protocol. It's not a magic diagnosis. It's something we build over time through daily habits such as:
~Quality sleep.
~Balanced nutrition.
~Movement.
~Stress management.
~Healthy relationships.
~Purpose.
~Creating safety.
~Facing the tender spots where healing needs to take place (i.e. inner child, trauma, emotional wounds, etc).
These seemingly simple foundations often create more lasting change than the latest trending protocol. These are the foundations of lasting, meaningful health, and consequently, health resiliency!
Instead of asking: "How do I eliminate every symptom?"
Try asking: "How can I increase my capacity to handle life's challenges?"
That shift alone can change the way you approach healing. Since, as I mentioned already, healing isn't always about becoming symptom-free. It's MUCH more about becoming stronger, steadier, and more resilient along the way. And in my experience, that's where true freedom begins.
This fall I'll be teaching my newest webinar, Running on Empty, where we'll explore the hidden factors that drain your energy and practical ways to build health resilience from the inside out. Make sure you're on my email list for first dibs access!
